At Foresight Studios — a performance space in the Los Angeles hipster neighborhood of Silver Lake — an exercise and dance class known as Sweaty Sundays attracts artists, screenwriters, choreographers and other creative types.

The class is led by Ryan Heffington, a performance artist, dancer and designer. Many of his students share his enthusiasm for Lycra and bright pastels.

The class was born of a roving monthly club night that Mr. Heffington held in 2006 and 2007, where clubbers learned short routines as they nursed their beers. Some of the night clubbers have changed their habits. “This is becoming more serious for them,” said Mr. Heffington. The class inspired one member to start a marching band. Another wrote her master’s thesis on it. The class is so popular that people are often turned away. Mr. Heffington has added a second class on Sunday and a weeknight class.

Stretching Out with a Dancing Spirit.

Alvin and Ailey’s program “Dancing Spirit” which happens to be a premiere by Ronald K. Brown shares the title of Judith Jamison. Also intended to be a tribute to Ms. Jamison, who happens to be Ailey’s artistic director. With solos and combination pieces to soulful songs by Otis Reading and Duke Ellington through funk and soul the Alvin and Ailey dancers reach out to the audience with a story through movement. From Curtain open to close the audience was touched by this production.

Making Morphin Shapes through dance.

A way of moving that is specific to a certain shape that is usully look upon as un-normal. One of the qualities that makes a choreographer’s work interesting to watch. Mediated through her dancers’ bodies, the effect is not quite as powerful, but still compelling. As dancers such as Kelley Donovan arms curving in smoothly flowing curlicues around her body, her torso dipping forward and twisting as she lunges with weighted power. Mophirning shapes isnt easy this art of Dance takes time a well stretch body parts.

SPRAY ON TAN???

Producers suggest that Dancing with the Stars contestants use spray-on tan or full body foundation to make their body glow. Contestants who felt fat go in for the spray-on tan, makeup etc come out felling slim and beautiful. Six-pack abs, defined cheekbones and sculpted arms appeared almost instantly. Each 10-week season, the cast goes through more than six gallons of spray-tan liquid, or juice as it is known in the industry.

ABDC Participants still Dancing Strong!

America’s Best Dance Crew participant Fanny Pak is still standing strong with their impressive great dance performances all over he United States. Since the breaking performance on the MTV hit show ABDC, Fanny Pak has received thousands or fan mail and opportunities to perform. Wendy Perron of NYIBC ask readers of Dance Magazine.com to give their opinon on the choices made, two wonderful dancers but petite dancers werent choosen to be apart of the academy’s future projects. She asked readers of Dance magazine to give their opinion on dancers under the height of 5.5″. Artisitic Directors such as Wendy used to choose dancers based on talent and ability not if you were under a certain hight or overweight. Now theres strict requirments many see as unfair. For example Diana Chetelat out of Baltimore, MD believes that A dancer should be judged by her performance, her technique, and her lines–great lines don’t have to mean tall. I hope these standards change because too many female dancers have trained for too long only to be told they are not tall enough.

Most common ages for professional male and female dancers are 13-28. Anyone above the age of 28 may not be physically fit for dancing and those under the age of 13 may not have the experience needed. This topic is not only relevent in the dance world but in the model industry.

Each day viewers discover a new dance, technique, or simple dance move. For example the new party/hip hop dance called Jerking. Jerking is a party dance danced by males and females all different ages. This dance was inspired by previous hip hop dances such as the “Swag n Serf” or “Walk-it-Out”. Orignally jerking was seen by residence of California usually done by young adults, teenagers or children. Soon Jerking was know all over the world with our world-wide network youtube.com. Videos of the dance and unique music for the dance was posted on youtube.com giving internet browsers something new. Soon Jerking was a world premiered video show millions across the US how to “Jerk” (jerking).
